Martingale & Training Collars

A greyhound, a whippet or a nervous rescue can back straight out of a flat collar, because the head is narrower than the neck. A martingale closes a controlled amount when the lead goes tight and then stops, which prevents the escape without becoming a choke.

The stop is set by the length of the control loop, and that is the whole specification. We build it to a measured neck rather than a size chart, and we state the closed circumference on the label so anybody handling the dog can check it.

These are the standard collar for sighthound rescues and for kennels handling unfamiliar dogs. They are not a correction tool and we do not sell them as one — the limit exists precisely so the collar cannot keep tightening.

Is a martingale a choke collar?

No. A choke chain has no limit and keeps closing; a martingale is stitched to a stop and closes only as far as the control loop allows. Fitted correctly it snugs to the neck and goes no further.

How do I measure for one?

Measure the widest part of the head and the neck. The collar is built so its closed size sits between the two — snug on the neck, smaller than the skull. Send both numbers and we will size it.
